Product Description

These currants, native to the midwestern States, produce some of the nicest (and unheralded) berries in North America.  They were used extensively by indigenous peoples to make pemmican, and were also enjoyed raw.  Very hardy and tolerant of virtually any soil, the shrub makes a stunning specimen when in flower, with brilliant yellow flowers that attract an array of native insects, as well as hummingbirds, followed by an abundant crop of delicious, sweet, black berries in remarkable quantity.  We love them fresh or made into preserves.
