Farm Tour: the Creation of a Permaculture Homestead

June 24, 2017 @ 2:00 pm - 4:30 pm

$15

We bought our farm in 2010, and have worked steadily to transform it into a low-energy, high-yielding homestead based on permaculture design principles.  We’ve put more of our efforts into the house and surrounding gardens, so the tour will mainly cover our methods of slowly renovating and super-insulating our old farmhouse, and of designing and planting our ever-expanding edible landscapes.  We’ll show you the maps we’ve made of the property and take you on detailed tours of our edible forest gardens.  We’ll show you our propagation beds, our seed-starting set-up, and our favourite fruit and berry bushes.  We’ll also show you some of the mistakes we’ve made along the way, including some poorly designed swales that ended up doing more harm than good.  We’ll also show you our plans for the future of the house and the farm, and give you a sneak peek at some new edible perennials with which we’re experimenting.

Please bring appropriate footwear (rubber boots are a good idea; some of our property is often wet) and weather-appropriate clothing.
