A very showy berry bush, red currants also make great preserves. We use them in fruit salads and in our morning oatmeal, and we always make some red current jam. It take two or three weeks after they turn red before they sweeten up (although they do retain some tartness). Red currants don’t need much maintenance at all, and do well in almost any soil.
