Product Description
This species bears the largest acorns of any oak tree in North America. It’s slow to mature, but will provide huge crops of acorns for generations. Acorns have been a staple crop for many different cultures for millenia; they’ve only recently become forgotten as a valuable nut. The tannins must be leached to render the versatile and nutritious nutmeat edible. Oaks also support a wide diversity of insect and animal life; they’re a hugely important keystone species. Two are needed for cross-pollination.
