Corylus spp.: 8′ high x 6′ wide / full sun to full shade / zone 4
An excellent nut tree for the home garden because of their small size, hazelnuts produce a delicious, protein-rich crop that can be stored all winter. Two species are native to Ontario; ours are seedlings of selected varieties, which are hybrids of a number of species. Two are needed for cross-pollination. They start bearing nuts in about 5 years in good conditions, and will even produce nuts in quite deep shade.
